Personal care facilities are warm, friendly places that are best suited for the older person who needs daily personal assistance, but is basically well. These facilities may stand alone or may be part of a retirement community or nursing home. Personal care accommodations vary from single or double rooms to suites and apartments. People may also receive personal care services in their own home as a supplement to family and neighborhood supports.
Whatever the setting, persons have a sense of contributing and controlling their own lives. Typical services include reminders of, or physical assistance with: meal(s) preparation, eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and other daily activities, medication, transportation shopping, laundry and housekeeping.
