High-Tech Elder Cottages Would Allow Elderly to Live Near Relatives

A startup company in Salem, Va., called N2Care LLC has announced plans to manufacture and lease 50 specially designed modular buildings that can house older people in the backyard of a family member’s home. The 288- square-foot MEDcottage, outfitted with state-of-the-art smart technology, will rent for $2,000-$2,500 a month. N2CareLLC is hoping that the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities, will help the company obtain zoning approval to install the units.
