When Georgians sort through the maze of services available to aging persons, who can they trust to help find quality providers and other resources? The Center for Positive Aging has been there for Atlanta seniors, their families and caregivers for over 25 years. Now, as the consumer arm of Aging Service of Georgia, the Center will be the trusted source for these services for aging persons and their families throughout Georgia. (full article)
This unique position expands the mission of Aging Services of Georgia by educating and connecting consumers with key providers of aging services in Georgia. The board and staff are making great progress in the plan for “connecting people to the resources they need” state-wide. A key part of this plan is revamping the Center’s website that will provide 24/7 access to information that will help consumers understand the types of services available, and locate the quality providers in their communities.
The Center envisions each of the 150 Aging Services of Georgia members (and others to be determined) as local “centers for positive aging” in the communities they serve. Each center will offer the community its expertise on aging issues, hosting educational programs and opportunities for consumers. Using the comprehensive information on the website, Aging Services of Georgia members can strengthen their position as key resources in their communities.
We are drafting criteria for providers in order to be listed as one of the key quality providers in Georgia. The criteria will include having a good reputation in the community, being licensed, having stable ownership, agreeing to refer to other key providers if you can not meet the need, agreeing to a quality covenant/pledge, as well as other factors that insure consumer trust. Additionally, we will ask you for references of other key providers of housing and community-based services in your area of the state. We need this information in order to broaden the list of providers throughout the entire state.
We want to support the “key/quality providers” by providing tools and materials to connect with congregations and other organizations in their local communities. Our goal is to refer consumers directly to the key providers in the area of the state in which they are seeking housing and/or in-home services.
The home page www.centerforpositiveaging.org, will be on-line by the end of April. The web site will have an official launch in June or July. Watch for more information to make sure you are listed as one of the key quality providers.
